Let’s think about it for a second….. Almost all large companies have a marketing dept. Did you get that? They have an entire department 100% dedicated to marketing that company’s product or service. The people working in this department aren’t concerned with customer service and retention (there’s a different department that handles that). The marketing department isn’t worried about payroll, accounting, collections or accounts receivables. They aren’t dealing with employees calling in “sick” the Monday after the Super bowl or numerous Friday’s during the spring and summer. They aren’t concerned that Thomas can’t retrieve emails on his blackberry. None of these important day-to-day business issues matter to them because their sole job is marketing.
Now let’s look at you, Mr. Entrepreneur, Mrs. Business Owner, Mr. Contractor, and Ms. Friendly Neighbor Realtor; in order for your business to succeed you are forced to be concerned with customer service, accounting, human resources and information technology on a daily basis. And then you have to focus on marketing too?????
When you really look at it; if your marketing isn’t done properly the need for customer service is eliminated. The only accounting is probably accounts payable. HR is not hiring, and Thomas can focus on beating his high score in brick breaker. Poor marketing results in: your phone not ringing, your store being empty, and you ultimately loosing money.
The reality is most small business owners either don’t have the time or the skill to effectively brand themselves and market their products to this “4G, Twitter Crazed, QR Code, Smart-phone” generation.
